Big Boy 4014 Steam Engine Whistle Top in Knox

Mayor Dennis Estok would like to remind all residents that on July 16th at approximately 12:30 CST the Big Boy 4014 Steam Engine will be making a whistle stop here in Knox for approximately 30-45 minutes.

The train is expected to stop west of Highway 35 to Bower St. Please pay close attention to the signage and barriers for streets that will be closed to traffic during this time. Please be aware that we are expecting up to 5,000 people beginning in the morning until after the train’s departure. Expect not only heavy vehicle traffic but also pedestrians walking in the area.

In addition, on-street parking will be impacted even with designated parking areas throughout the downtown. The Community Center Parking lot will be handicapped parking only on a first come first serve basis.

Local businesses should also prepare for heavier business than normal. Local vendors and food trucks will be open from 10 am – 4 pm and will be stationed on Main Street near the Courthouse and throughout the City.

Mayor Estok also stated that permits for yard sales will be waived for July 16th for those wanting to host a yard sale. If residents intend on selling food items, they should be contacting the Starke County Health Department at 574-772-9137.
